Commissions
Commissioning music had been a topic of discussion for many years within the Board and Program Committee. Audience interest grew as we presented more works by living composers and offered open rehearsals with composers that provided insight into their process. We took the first step as co-commissioners when the Miro Quartet invited CMT to join their project for a new string quartet by Kevin Puts. Subsequently the Board of Directors included “Commission New Music” in the 2019 Strategic Plan and voted to launch the venture with commissions to mark the Centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre. We received our first National Endowment for the Arts grant to support performances of those works. In December 2020, Terry and Pamela Carter made a significant financial contribution to establish a Commissioning Fund that supports the creation of new music now and into the future.
Chamber Music Tulsa embraces commissioning and presenting new music as part of our mission and vision. Through commissioning we invest in the future of Chamber Music and support the thriving chamber music scene in the United States. You can support our commissioning endeavors by donating to the Commissioning Fund HERE or by giving to specific upcoming commissioning projects.
